Killarney is a popular town in County Kerry, Ireland. The town is known for its beautiful Killarney National Park filled with wild deer. Killarney National Park
Killarney National Park is what people get excited about when they visit Killarney. This park with over ten thousand hectares is the natural habitat of deer. Visitors to the park can see herds of deer from different parts of the park as they graze. Waterways, grazing fields, and mountains contribute to the beauty of the landscape here. Muckross Estate
Visit Muckross House is that located on the Muckross Estate. This 19th century mansion is an art on it’s own. The house sits a few kilometers outside Killarney center. The gardens around the house are beautifully presented and enjoyed by both locals and tourists. Further on the estate are parks, Muckross Lake, Lake of Learning (Lough Leane), waterways, and woodland. There is a restaurant where you can sit and enjoy good food. There is a fee to enter inside.
St Mary’s Cathedral
St Mary’s Cathedral is an architectural beauty that was built in the 1800s. When at St Mary’s Cathedral entrance, you can see Knockreer House & Gardens. This place is where you can take in the beautiful views of mountains and lakes.
Kerry Way
Kerry Way is a foot path found in Killarney. Rivers, nature, and beautiful views of mountains surround the path. Kerry Way is 214km long and considered to be the longest marked footpath in Ireland. Most visitors to Killarney plan to break down the entire length of the path into daily manageable distances. Along the way, there are small towns that accommodate walkers who stop for breaks and night accommodation. Pack food and drinks for each walk. Other people walk in the morning and return to Killarney to continue their Ring of Kerry drive.
Ross Castle
On the banks of Killarney’s lower lake you will find Ross Castle. The castle was built in the 15th century by O’Donoghue Mór. A portion of the land around the castle is part of Killarney National Park. In the summer months, Ross Castle is open to the public.
