As travelers and tourists prepare for a trip to see one of the wonders of this world, the question that most ask is, ‘what to wear at Victoria Falls’ (both sides, Zimbabwe and Livingstone, Zambia). Before arranging your travel wardrobe and deciding what to pack, consider the weather first as this is the determinant factor. There are winter and summer seasons at Victoria Falls, no spring and fall. Scroll below for weather information.
KNOW ACTIVITIES & WHAT TO SEE IN VICTORIA FALLS, BEFORE PACKING FOR BOTH ZIMBABWE & ZAMBIA
There are so many things to do around Victoria Fall on both sides—Zimbabwe and Livingstone, Zambia. When sharing these travel clothing ideas, we considered activities on both sides of Victoria Falls, as well as trending travel fashion.
Seeing the magnificent Victoria Falls as well as taking a safari or game viewing trip are the most popular activities. Also, Victoria Falls Town, in Zimbabwe, has other interesting activities such as tram rides, eating and swimming at In-Da-Belly, and shopping at Elephant’s Walk Shopping and Artist Village. On the Zambia side, the town of Livingstone is packed with cultural activities and game viewing activities—it is equally intriguing. A Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River is the ultimate relaxing activity you don’t want to miss.
VICTORIA FALLS TRAVEL STYLE (THE FALLS)
So many people are not sure of what to wear when exploring Victoria Falls (the falls). The most important things to consider here are the shoes and comfortability of the clothes you are wearing. Equally important to some people, is the fact that the mist leaves showers behind and these reach the walking trails—taking an umbrella or raincoat may be advisable. From March to July, following the rainy season, the mist is intense, the rest of the dry months it is not too bad. As the Victoria Falls area is normally warm, shorts, very light pants, or loose dresses/skirts are more suitable—below are travel clothes for women that are both comfortable and perfect if you want to travel in style when visiting both Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Victoria Falls Outfit One
Khaki Shorts; White Leather Tote Bag; Beige Merrell Tideriser Moc Boat Shoes; White Top; Red Sunglasses
Victoria Falls Outfit Two
Striped Dress; Red Teva Hurricane Drift Sandals; Black Sunglasses; Black Leather Fanny Bag; Grey Cardigan
For rent: At Victoria Falls, ask at the office for things you can rent, such as raincoats, flip flops, and plastic shoes.
SAFARI / GAME VIEWING TRAVEL STYLE
Game viewing is a morning activity as the animals are coming out from their nightspots to find food and water. In the evenings, most animals are drinking water in the Zambezi River banks—this is the perfect time for a River Cruise. Whatever you decide to wear in Victoria Falls’ game parks, make sure the clothing items are light and breathable, you have a hat, sunglasses, sun protection/sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and a light jacket, sweater or cardigan.
Safari\Game Viewing Outfit
Safari Shirt; Navy Military Trousers; Grey Boots; Grey Suede Jacket; Black Leather Fanny Bag; Black Sunglasses; Safari Hat
WHAT SHOES ARE SUITABLE FOR VICTORIA FALLS
Because of the mist at the Falls, it is advisable to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and have a solid grip—this is a big consideration in the rainy season or months following the rainy season as the walking paths can be slippery. Don’t wear flip flops as they fall off during game viewing activities and perform poorly on slippery wet surfaces. You are better off packing sandals with good grip that are manufactured for walking in terrains—for example, sandals made by Merrell, Teva, and Keen.
For bungee jumping or gorge swings, consider shoes that will not fall off, or take your shoes off for the jump.
Beige Merrell Tideriser Moc Boat Shoes; Red Teva Hurricane Drift Sandals; Black Merrell Hydro Glove Water Shoes; Vibram Five Fingers V-Aqua Water Shoes
DEVIL’S POOL OUTFIT
If you are thinking of visiting the Devil’s Pool in Livingstone, Zambia for a swim, make sure you have a travel packing list that includes a swimsuit and water shoes—there is a bit of walking in the water to get to Devils Pool, the stones can be rough when you are barefoot and flip flops float off your feet. Nike Aqua Sock 360 and Crocs Water Shoes are suitable for this activity.
Black One-Piece Swimsuit; Orange Romper; White Leather Tote Bag; Black Barefoot Water Shoes; Black Merrell Hydro Glove Water Shoes; Black Sunglasses
WEATHER IN VICTORIA FALLS TOWN, ZIMBABWE & LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA
May to August is winter in Victoria Falls and Livingstone. Average high temperatures in Victoria Falls Town are between 77°F and 81°F (25°C and 27°C); the average low temperatures are between 45°F and 50°F (7°C and 10°C). Livingstone is usually about 2 degrees warmer than Victoria Falls Town.
September to April are summer months, for both Victoria Falls Town and Livingstone, high temperatures reach 90-93°F (32-34°C). Low temperatures range from 59°F and 66°F (15°C and 19°C).
March, April, May, June, and July, are the best months to visit Victoria Falls because the water is abundant and the falls are dramatic—this also means the showers from the falls to the viewing points are more intense than in the months of August to October when the water is drying out. When the Falls are flowing in their abundance and you decide to view the rainbow over the Falls, from Victoria Falls Bridge, be prepared to get wet.
In the months of December, January and February, heavy rains are falling and a lot of activities like rafting are shut. It is not advisable to visit Victoria Falls during this rainy period.
