Milan is a metropolitan city full of fashion and art. It is known as the fashion city—you will find designer boutiques even in the narrow streets—but there are also a few tourist attractions that will please your eyes artistically. Euro is the currency in Italy. Italian is the main language in Milan, but you will find other people speaking English as well. June to September are the warm months in Milan with July and August being the hottest—average highest temperatures being 77 °F (25 °C). November through February are the coldest months.

CASTELLO SFORZESCO

Castello Sforzesco, in English Sforza Castle, is a very famous castle in Milan constructed in the 15th century but remodeled in the 17th century. The building itself is beautifully designed—people go to see the architecture as well as the art galleries in the museums. Castello Sforzesco is open every day from 7 am to 7:30 pm. For maximum experience, ensure you enter the museums as well.

DUOMO MILAN CATHEDRAL

Birds flying, bells ringing and echoes erupting from the hollows of the Piazza del Duomo—you will not leave the Duomo Cathedral without feeling you have just witnessed a magnificent structure. The cathedral is covered marble, spires, and statues; the beauty from within transcends to the outside of this amazing church. In order to avoid wasting time, ensure you go there early in the morning—the magnitude of people wanting to see the cathedral is overwhelming. After 10 am until the sun sets, tourists fill the grounds of Duomo, all wanting to catch a glimpse of this national treasure. The nearest Metro station is Duomo.

GALLERIA VITTORIO EMANUELE II

Named after the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, this is a very popular shopping arcade in Milan. Its structure is locally known as Il Salotto Bueno, which means ‘the city’s fine drawing room’. Located right opposite Duomo Cathedral and other iconic buildings, it is a perfect spot to hang out after a morning of sightseeing.

VIA DANTE

Via Dante is a pedestrian street that leads right to Sforza Castle from the center of Milan. It was named after the poet, Dante Alighieri. The street is filled with cafes, restaurants, theatres, bars, and shops.

PIAZZA SAN FEDELE

Piazza San Fedele is a square located in central Milan near many landmarks and shopping areas. In the square, you will find San Fedele Church which was built by Pellegrino Tibaldi in the 16th century. At the very center of the square, you will find Alessandro Manzoni’s statue which was erected in honor of the famous Italian writer.

SAN SIRO STADIUM

The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, which is commonly known as San Siro, is a football stadium located in the San Siro district in Milan. The stadium was built in the 1920’s—this is where AC Milan and Inter football clubs play on alternate Sundays during the season. You pay money for a guided tour of the stadium, which includes a visit to the players’ locker rooms. The nearest metro station is Lotto.

THE DIAMOND TOWER – TORRE DIAMANTE

The Diamond Tower, in Italian known as Torre Diamante, is a high-rise in Milan—140 meters tall—on the corner of Viale Della Liberazione and Via Galilei. It was built following the urban development project, Porta Nuova project. Around the building, you will find some lower constructions, called Diamantini (small diamonds). Together they function as commercial buildings.

SEMPIONE PARK & ARCH OF PEACE

Sempione park is a large city park in Milan which was established in 1888. The park is adjacent to a triumphal arch called Arco Della Pace (Arch of Peace). The park is well loved by both locals and tourists—this is where you go after a long day of shopping and sightseeing. On the other end of the park, Sforza Castle is located.

PIAZZALE CADORNA

Piazzale Cadorna (Cadorna Square) is situated in the center of Milan, near Cadorna Railway and Metro stations. In the square, you will find a giant sculpture of a needle, Thread & Knot (Ago, filo e nodo), by Claes Oldenburg and his wife Coosje van Bruggen. This sculpture represents the hard work and talent of the fashion of the city.

Piazza Filippo Meda is a public square in Milan that was named after a politician in Italy in the early 1900’s. In the middle, there is a round structure sitting perfectly in its glory.

This square is situated in Milan and very close to Duomo cathedral and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II where you can shop. This is where you will find the monument to Leonardo.

Teatro alla Scala a big opera house in the city of Milan. The theatre is the center of live shows and plays that are popular amongst both locals and foreigners.

PALAZZO MARINO

Palazzo Marino is Milan’s city hall, situated in Piazza Della Scala, opposite La Scala theatre. It was built by a wealthy tax collector Tommaso Marino In 1557 but designed by Galeazzo Alessi and completed in 1563. In 1861, the city of Milan acquired Palazzo Marino and moved its administration to this building. It is still Milan’s city hall.

GALLERIA VITTORIO EMANUELE II

In this upscale shopping mall, you will find designer shops such as Prada, Louis Vuitton, and many other well-known brands. It is located so close to Duomo Cathedral. QUADRILATERO D’ORO (RECTANGLE OF GOLD)

This shopping area is known as the rectangle of gold because of its location—four streets meet right at the shopping area— Via Manzoni, Via Sant’Andrea, Via Montenapoleone, and Via Della Spiga. It is known as the place of fashion.

VIA DELLA SPIGA

Via Della Spiga is a very famous and the must go to street for shopping. This alley of well-known designer shops, as well as small local boutiques, is where fashion is well represented in Milan.

VIALE GADIO

If you want a break from high-end fashion—but want equally stylish items that are locally produced—be sure you visit the flea market in the street of viale gadio. In addition to clothes, bags, shoes, fashion accessories, and home decor, you will find local street food. This market is very close to Sforza Castle.

VIA MONTE NAPOLEONE

This upscale shopping street in Milan is said to be one of the very expensive shopping places in Europe. Designer brands own high-end shops here.

VIA MANZONI

Via Manzoni is another shopping street in Milan that screams fashion. Near Piazza Della Scala and other attractions in the center of the city of Milan, you have so much to do after shopping.
