THEAN HOU TEMPLE, KUALA LUMPUR

Thean Hou Temple is a Buddhist temple in Kuala Lumpur that has deservedly gained the reputation of being one of the most beautiful temples in Asia. It is also one of the largest and oldest temples in Southeast Asia (Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, and etcetera). The architecture and detailed traditional design showcase the meticulous craftsmanship of the Hainanese community—they completed the temple in 1987, dedicating it to the goddess said to protect fishermen, Tian Hou.

There is a garden of herbs for Chinese medicine, as well as a pond of tortoises. Inside the temple, there are different gods and shrines. The prayer hall is not short of people burning joss sticks and giving offerings. The temple has a marriage registration office and newlyweds can take pictures in and around the temple. There is also an option of renting a hall for events at the premises. You can also find martial arts classes and fortune readings, among other events.
